It’s been a while since I posted I was getting stuck into some hard stuff in reframing my life, basically. Well, those few little pages have still got me well and truly in them, but the light at the end of the tunnel is finally dawning! Of 40 things I listed, I’ve worked through 34 of them – and BOY does it feel good!!!!
I sneak peeked ahead a bit to see whether there was anything else in store after I did that, and it looks like there’s a bit of a consolidation exercise, but I’m hoping by this weekend I should FINALLY be moved on to the next bit. I’m looking forward to seeing what it is. Actually, I’m looking forward to meeting myself coming out of this, because it truly is life changing stuff. I’m dropping burdens off my shoulders so much I’m now getting comments asking if I’ve lost weight (I haven’t, but I suspect walking taller and feeling more connected with myself might have something to do with it).
Sasha, I can’t wait for the rest of your makeover…

OK, while I’ve been mostly focused around LOA for this site, the bottom line is I’m trying to manifest something online that will help me own my apartment outright (my big hairy audacious goal, as Rich Schefren would say). So, in conjunction with a couple of friends from my mastermind group, I’m doing the 30 day Challenge this year.
Hopefully, this year I’ll actually get all the way through it!
If you’ve not come across it, what the 30 day challenge does is take you through a step by step process in earning your first $10 online. I plan on juicing it up and targeting a bit more than that, since I’ve already broken through that milestone, but the best part about it is that it costs NOTHING to do, and there are even prizes. The guys who run it also keep very up to date on how the web is involving, so it’s a pretty in depth course in Web 2.0 (or are we up to 3.0 yet?).
For that, I’m even willing to put up with Ed Dale constantly preaching the virtues of the macintosh.
I used to use them back in Uni days. And no, I’m not saying when that was, except maybe that it was a long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. But I grew a bit and loved getting stuck into the nuts & bolts of my system (in case you hadn’t noticed) and for that I had to move on to a PC. I was just too locked out of the innards of a Mac. I would have kept moving and gone to Linux, but I have some support functions in my job that mean I have to keep up to date on Microsoft’s software on a Windows platform 🙁 so I stuck with it.
Anyway, back to the challenge. It’ll be an interesting exercise to fuse the 30 day challenge stuff with the LOA techniques I’m learning, but I’ll keep you posted.
I found a post today that gives a scientific backing to the fact that the Law of Attraction WORKS! Thanks to ‘Daily Galaxy‘ site for this:
DNA has been found to have a bizarre ability to put itself together, even at a distance, when according to known science it shouldn’t be able to. Explanation: None, at least not yet.
Scientists are reporting evidence that contrary to our current beliefs about what is possible, intact double-stranded DNA has the “amazing” ability to recognize similarities in other DNA strands from a distance. Somehow they are able to identify one another, and the tiny bits of genetic material tend to congregate with similar DNA. The recognition of similar sequences in DNA’s chemical subunits, occurs in a way unrecognized by science. There is no known reason why the DNA is able to combine the way it does, and from a current theoretical standpoint this feat should be chemically impossible.
Even so, the research published in ACS’ Journal of Physical Chemistry B, shows very clearly that homology recognition between sequences of several hundred nucleotides occurs without physical contact or presence of proteins. Double helixes of DNA can recognize matching molecules from a distance and then gather together, all seemingly without help from any other molecules or chemical signals.
In the study, scientists observed the behavior of fluorescently tagged DNA strands placed in water that contained no proteins or other material that could interfere with the experiment. Strands with identical nucleotide sequences were about twice as likely to gather together as DNA strands with different sequences. No one knows how individual DNA strands could possibly be communicating in this way, yet somehow they do. The “telepathic” effect is a source of wonder and amazement for scientists.
“Amazingly, the forces responsible for the sequence recognition can reach across more than one nanometer of water separating the surfaces of the nearest neighbor DNA,” said the authors Geoff S. Baldwin, Sergey Leikin, John M. Seddon, and Alexei A. Kornyshev and colleagues.
This recognition effect may help increase the accuracy and efficiency of the homologous recombination of genes, which is a process responsible for DNA repair, evolution, and genetic diversity. The new findings may also shed light on ways to avoid recombination errors, which are factors in cancer, aging, and other health issues.

The old saying about when the student is ready came true for me today. I’m subscribed to the blog over at Steve Pavlina, and having finally broken through my procrastination barrier and started on the toughest exercise yet on my LoA course, I got a post today linking back to an old article from 2006, which absolutely applies to where I’m at and the next step I’ve not known how to take…
Ever heard of “alpha reflections”? I’ve experienced them, but never had the name for them, or the process explained to me before. Even better, in his post not only does he tell you what they are, but the next few steps are also explained in clear language, which told me exactly why my more ambitious manifestations are feeling ‘stalled’ or unfilled.
You know when you have a want/desire that you put out there for the universe to deliver, there’s usually some kind of funny coincidence happens not long after that doesn’t quite match what you were asking for, but seems to be related – I always believed it was a signal that I was heading in the right direction, and would wait expectantly for the manifestation to happen from there. Steve does too, but according to his blog there’s another step in there. Actually, two. There’s the lull (which is what I used to think was the test period to check if you really wanted what you asked for, again, never gave it a name) and then there’s what he calls the beta reflection, where the ideas etc start coming. Ting! The lightbulb just went on. I’ve been taking the beta reflection for the manifestation, believing that was the extent of my skill, and dismissing my intention early!
So how does this affect my posts here at 30 day LOA? Well, for starters I intend to use his terminology for alpha and beta reflections in my progress updates from here on in, but secondly I now have 3 new measures to check how my skill levels are progressing. I can watch how long it takes for the alpha to appear, then the length of the lull until the beta reflection, and finally how long it is between that and the point where I mark my manifestation off as done. The aim, of course, will be twofold: firstly I’ll want to have as short a period as possible between each stage, and secondly I can build up my skills in holding focus by seeing how long I can maintain my focus for – increasing the size of my manifestations as I increase the length of time I can sustain them.
Oh, and the post which linked back to this whole explanation is well worth reading too – about allowing ourselves to receive income from doing what we love, instead of forcing ourselves to only earn it doing things we hate to do. Spot on again, Steve!!! (anyone want a $1 coaching session on personal empowerment and LOA?)
I love The Unstandard theme from 5thirtyone for it’s cool way of presenting posts, but the sidebar wasn’t down to be widgetised until the next release – and from his blog it seemed like the author might be too busy to do that for a while. So, not having done a lot of coding since the old days of html (although I did dabble a bit in php and javascript a few years back) I waded gamely in to learn my way around someone else’s – fantastic I might add – work. Hopefully without making too much of a hash of it.
The long and the short of it is, I found lots of sites on designing themes, and widgetizing ones that didn’t have it, but following most of them I found the neat pretty formatting of the sidebar suddenly disappeared in favour of a tiny, mashed up ultra small script. Argh! Not good! Today being the first day I’ve had any serious time to delve, though, I did discover the why and wherefore behind losing the formatting. It lies in the ‘functions.php’ page.
Credit where credit is due, as well as WordPress.org stuff and a primer that got me started (and panicked when I lost the formatting), the turnkey point was when I found this post today that clarified it for me. When wordpress registers a sidebar, I needed to tell it what formatting to put before and after the titles, as well as before and after the widgets.
Now, I haven’t exactly got it right yet. For some reason it seems that each widget title appears larger than the one before it, so I’m not sure what’s going on there (update: found a workaround below, but still need some help with tidying it), but in a nutshell you need to do three things:
First: create or edit the functions.php file so that wordpress knows what to do if there are widgets on the sidebar. The code I got was from that last link above was:
<?php
if ( function_exists('register_sidebar') )
register_sidebar(array(
'before_widget' => '',
'after_widget' => '',
'before_title' => '<h4>',
'after_title' => '</h4>',
));
?>
Because the article explained that it was to fit in with custom headings etc, I knew where to look in the sidebar.php file to discover what needed to be put in for the Unstandard theme. My modified version is:
<?php
if ( function_exists(‘register_sidebar’) )
register_sidebar(array(
‘before_widget’ => ‘<br /><br />’,
‘after_widget’ => ”,
‘before_title’ => ‘</ul><h3>’,
‘after_title’ => ‘</h3><ul class=”sidebar-ul”>’,
));
?>
The top bit ‘before widget’ gives you the nice spacing, the before and after title lines put it into the sidebar formatting. The list formatting didn’t come up until I added in the <ul class…> bit, but I suspect that’s where my enlarging titles are (were) coming from, since I couldn’t figure out how to close off the ul class. Don’t forget to save the changes before you move away from that page. The button’s way down the bottom (update file) so I for one keep forgetting to do it!
Update: I tested putting /ul in the ‘before title’ part, and it did fix the enlarging titles problem, but it’s messy, since the first widget will have a /ul that has no corresponding ul tag. Any flash coders out there know how to put conditions in there so it’ll only put the h3 on for the first widget?
Anyway, that’s step one. Now your theme knows how to handle widgets in the sidebar.
Step 2 is to tell the sidebar file that it’s supposed to allow widgets in. That involves two pieces of code – a start one and an end one, which you put in at the part you want to have the widgets come up instead of.
I wanted to keep the search bar, as well as that cool ‘next/previous’ thing, so I made sure to put it underneath that – the lines to look for are:
<h3>Explore Recent</h3>
<ul class=”sidebar-nextprev fix”>
<li class=”previous”><?php previous_post_link(‘%link’) ?></li>
<li class=”next”><?php next_post_link(‘%link’) ?></li>
</ul>
<?php } ?>
It had to go in AFTER the section got closed off with the } bit (got some weird errors when I accidentally put it in after the /ul instead.) Then I pasted in:
<?php if ( !function_exists(‘dynamic_sidebar’)
|| !dynamic_sidebar() ) : ?>
Finally, I had to tell the file where it was supposed to stop putting in the dynamic stuff. That line is
<?php endif; ?>
and I put it in just before the last </ul> (on the last line). If you just want to copy & paste the whole lot into your sidebar, click here to open the text file with the entire code for your sidebar.php under your theme editor. Again, make sure you save the changes.
Final step is to go to your widgets tab under design and drag in the widgets you want. Remember this is replacing all the ones that come standard (recent posts, archive & meta) so if you want them, you’ll need to drag them over to the right to put them back on. It’s a good idea to click on ‘edit’ for each of them to check for any titles etc that are needed by the widgetised versions of the sidebar section.
That should be it. Open the site up in a new tab or window and hit refresh to check what it looks like, and start playing!
PS I also figured out how to tweak it so that I could pick what posts were displayed on the front page. Comment back if you’d be interested in how to do that one too (it’s surprisingly simple…)
I’ve been working my way through the exercises with this “Playbook” that comes along with the manual, but I’ve been stalling on Chapter 13’s stuff for the past few days, just because it didn’t seem like the kind of stuff I could do at lunch, and I’ve not had the chance (or privacy) to do it at home.
Today I bit the bullet, and decided to stop off somewhere on the way home and get stuck into it. As a side benefit, I’d end up getting dinner served up, since there were no cafes open at that time and I had to fall back on a restaurant.
Let me tell you, the things she’s talking about made a lot of sense reading them, and I agreed with them wholeheartedly. Even thought I’d been doing them. But when I started answering the nitty gritty questions in the exercise, it opened up a whole new level that I’d been refusing to look at. I ended up only getting the first (hardest) bit done before I just had to leave off, but I have plenty in there to work with for the next session. That one’s going to take a bit of time, since it goes back & forward across each point. I know, though, that I am going to emerge the other side of this chapter as a changed person. I can already feel the process in play. WOW.
PS Since it’s such a thick book, and I’m not used to going through books this slowly, I skipped ahead to see how many chapters I still had waiting for me. It goes up to Chapter 24. More than half way, at least!
I got an email the other day about a lady who had an incredible track record of success with LOA, and a slightly different take on it to what I do. She was offering book 1 of her trilogy on special at only $17, so I couldn’t resist. I bought it, printed it up, and started reading.
Eventually, sometime after midnight I decided I would have to go to sleep at some stage, since I had to leave for work at 6am…
On the train to work, I got stuck into it again, and was amazed how fast the trip went – I didn’t want to put it down again. Hers was one ABSORBING and fascinating story. I decided at lunch I’d treat myself to a break from the office, and ended up taking a longer lunch than usual (I’ll just finish this chapter…) The train on the way home ended up being the last of it, and I finished it thinking how much I wanted to know more.
So I splurged, and arranged to get the next two books. It took me a bit of time to get them downloaded, but eventually I did.
These were (are) INTENSE and absolutely full of information. Book 2 and the “Playbook” work together, so you read part of one, go do the exercises in the other, go back to read more… I’m a fast reader but you just can’t rush this process. I don’t think you’d even want to.
A day into starting it, I found myself having manifested $50 on top of my day job income – I had a lottery win, found some cash on the ground, and got paid $14 in affiliate commissions for a product I reviewed a while back. Nice! I told my sister, and joked around that next I’d have to add a zero and have a $500 weekend.
10am this morning (Saturday) I logged into my email to find I’d received a quarterly payout for another affiliate program which I reviewed over 6 months ago. $196.11! I’ve never got a payout from that program before, so I found it amazing the first one was so high. I logged in to double check, and found out that 576 people had clicked through from the article I wrote about it! I didn’t even know my little blog had that many readers… That pushed my balance over $200, just from surprise income, and more than covered the cost of what I’d spent buying the book – not that it was a consideration, being one of the best reads I’ve had in a long while.
Anyway, needless to say, I got REALLY REALLY EXCITED! I’m curious to see how the rest of the weekend pans out – and I’m only up to Chapter 8….not even having started most of the really powerful things she’s showing me how to do!
I’ve decided, this is definitely going to be the subject of my next 30 day trial – starting today! (Not bad considering I haven’t even got through the book yet)
This week flew by, partly because I spent a few days of it recovering from the latest bug to do the rounds of the office, but I think also because I love the fact that I’m back online again, and making progress in pretty much all the major areas of my life at the moment. It’s a great feeling, and it seems to be helping to draw in what I need to keep moving forward…
One of the big problems with Internet Business, if you’ve followed it for any length of time, is that you tend to get on the lists of the big name Internet Marketers, so they can show you how to make money online. Great, you might think, except that it means you also get a lot of offers coming your way for various tools, books, software and anything else that’s related, just in case you want it. It’s very easy for large sums of money to be sucked up rapidly in the process of chasing the dream, and I’ve noticed most of the big success stories online do talk about having hit a point where there just wasn’t any money left and they HAD to make it work.
I think it’s part of the training, personally. Great way to develop a singleminded focus on succeeding by any means and whatever lengths it takes, right? I’ve come close to that point a few times myself, but fortunately I found a tool that helped me grab the lesson and make the shift I needed without having to go broke first.
Incidentally, since it’s based on assessing the offers you get against your business plan, it helped me clarify exactly how I hope to achieve my dream of earning a living online. That’s gotta be the best side effect so far, and it’s been more practical and useful for me than a lot of much pricier online business courses…
If you’d like to check it out for yourself (you won’t believe how much he’s NOT asking for it), the link is here
It’s funny, but this week having made the decision that I intended to get my mortgage cleared, it seems like a few of the circuits closed for me mentally. I’ve clarified in my mind the path I intend to follow (although I know it may end up changing, but at least for now it seems to be the right one) and as soon as I did, started getting connections and offers that were directly targeted to what I chose, or maybe felt prompted, to do.
I’ve had clear evidence that there should be no problems in fitting it in around my day job. Someone else there, it turns out, is doing something similar. I’ve just been copied in on a new course directly on how to do it, which I got at a discount because it’s just been released (if you’re interested, the link is here) and best of all, I’ve made a couple of new connections that will directly help me get there! When you get all those little confirmations, it’s pretty certain you’re following the right track, so I’m feeling very confident right now.
The morning routine didn’t happen every day this week, for one reason or another, but last time I did this it took a while to build up to 100% compliance in any case. I’m not going to beat myself around the head over it, the fact is I DID manage to do it more often than not so I’ll work on improving my averages from there. I’m a big believer in working up to things instead of going all out at the start and falling over from exhaustion when you’re only half way to the finish line. Been there, done that. Didn’t work, obviously.
So, plan for this week is to go through the course materials and maybe build up the network a bit more. I’m getting in the habit of keeping notes of my thoughts & journalling a lot more. That should help. If you don’t know why, then you really should have signed up for the free report series! The signup link for that is straight above.
Catch ya round!
Today I’m off from my day job, so I decided to use it as a ‘test’ of my ideal day.
Needless to say, updating my blog was high on my list, but I took my leisurely time about getting through the morning manifestation routine after I got up. Which, by the way, I also took my leisurely time about doing…
😉 I love this. I could do this every day!
So, considering I’ve already started off the day on the right foot, including getting exercise and meditation in, a cooked breakfast (it’s wet and cold here today) and a bit of cleaning, I feel relaxed and ready to get stuck into some fun stuff talking to you guys through the web.
My challenge this time is that I’m going to extend my previous ’30 day’ manifestations out and do something REALLY wild, and, considering the state of the mortgage market, kinda appropriate. I’ve chosen to focus on owning my little apartment free and clear.
Oh boy, could I get excited about that dream coming true! No time limits this time around: I intend to keep focusing on it until it happens, or I get a really clear message that pushes me in a different direction. Wouldn’t it be radical if it came true within the 30 day timeframe anyway!!!
Prep work is done, I know exactly how much money I’d need to bring in to achieve this, written it all out, and got the visual image I’m going to focus on morning and night (and at every opportunity in between). This is going to really test out how strongly I can develop a focused mindset to help bring the Law of Attraction into play. So: wish me luck or drop me a message below. It was easy today, but I’ve got no illusions that it’ll stay that way after I go back to work tomorrow, and cut my available time back to ‘regular’ levels…
