Those exercises I’ve been struggling with for the last few weeks - I finally finished off last night. Woo HOO! What a great feeling! I’ve basically had to do some hard looking at myself, my past, and where I am today, which has left me with a whole new appreciation for the way my life’s shaped up - even the ‘negative’ experiences - and freed me from a whole lot of emotional baggage.

I’ve even been asked if I’ve lost weight at work. I haven’t. I’m just walking taller these days.

It was a hard slog, I’ve got to admit, getting through those Chapter 14 exercises, but I am very happy I’ve done them, and am looking forward to moving onwards and upwards from here.

Now, in terms of actually turning this into a 30 day experiment, I have the foundation for the routine in place. Since I’ve committed to doing this 30 day challenge with my mastermind group, that’s going to take up August, but I intend to keep working through the rest of the manual for this, and September is seriously going to be the start of my trial. I’ll post you updates as I get through the rest and find interesting things happening.

On a side note, I’m finding myself with a lot more energy, and smiling a lot more this last week or so, as I’ve wound up doing the chapter. I’m even finding my attitude to money changing. Where I’d have panicked if I wasn’t in a Powerball draw (it was $10m this week), when I got picked up from work and didn’t get to the newsagent I liked, I just let it go. I figure if it’s being organised for me, they’d have known I wouldn’t be in it, and besides - $10m is not the figure I’ve been dreaming of. This week, though, it’s up to $15. I’ll definitely be in it this time around.

I also had an interesting experience at the supermarket yesterday. I was in a queue with one lady in front of me, and she started pulling stuff from the back of her pile to get the operator to put them through first, and checking the subtotal. My initial thought was “oh no, should’ve picked another queue, this is going to take a while” but it didn’t, because after only one thing she got to her limit. Then she realised that she needed a packet mix that was still waiting, so she had him put it through too - $41.30.

I could see she was torn. She had $40 in her hand, had been through her purse and handbag, and was saying “I have some more in the car”, but was frozen in place. For some reason, I decided to step up. I opened my purse, and strangely enough, I had exactly $1.30 in change, so I told the operator, and handed it over. The look on her face was wonderful - she couldn’t believe it. She was very grateful, and thanked me. I told her not to worry, people had done that for me. I also tried to say that if she felt like it, she could pay it forward by doing it for someone else, but for some reason it came out as: “You’ve done it for others”. She looked at me a bit quizzically, and said “You know, you’re right. I have done it for people. How’s that for Karma, bringing it back to me.” After she left, the guy behind me made comments that it was really nice of me. The feelings of appreciation and approval everyone was feeding me were amazing - and all over a tiny $1.30.

The funny thing is, I’d just received notice my mortgage was going up again, and been struggling to meet it as it was. I’d been focused on budgeting all week, but in that two minutes I suddenly felt incredibly rich, and it flipped my mindset to one where I felt very grateful that I was in a good enough situation financially that I could help someone out like that.

It’s a powerful feeling, giving away the thing you’ve been most worried about getting.
